New Shoes

Well yesterday I got some new running shoes (I had to go Family Guy and tell everybody in my best Chris Griffin voice "I got new shoes!!"). For those of you out there who run you know how great it feels to go out the first time in your new shoes and peel off a couple of miles. You don't realize how broken down your old shoes were until it feels like you are running on pillows.
I have what they call a wide bridge which is the width between the knuckles on your big toe and small toe, I also require a more stable heel. For people who are just getting into running or wanting to start running I suggest going to a place like Road Runner Sports where they will perform a few tests (urine sample, blood sample, spinal tap....kidding) on how you walk/run to find a shoe that is right for you. Having shoes that fit properly and provide the support where you most need it are going to make running a lot easier on your body.
The shoe that I decided on (after trying on 6 pairs, which elicited some snide comments about how I am worse than a woman about shoes) was the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9 which I picked up at FootZone (which is having a 20% off sale on all running shoes and more until Sunday the 5th). After buying these shoes I had to try them out and luckily I was meeting up with some friends for a 4 mile run. They were extremely comfortable, plenty of cushion and support as well as wide enough to support my wide bridge. Also they did NOT allow my foot to move front to back or side to side which will cause blisters (Mr. Yuck sticker). An added feature for those environmental friendly people like the ones here at Just South of North is that the laces are made from 100% recycled materials and they have the worlds first ever biodegradable midsole for running shoes.
All in all I was more than happy with my purchase, the only problem was that I live in Washington and it was of course pouring outside. I don't mind running in the rain because I have an inner heating system that keeps me warmer than most people. The problem was that of course since they are running shoes they have to be white. (Casey and I had a lengthy discussion about why this was and we even went so far to try and rationalize this with graphs, pie charts and a power point presentation by some trusted professors from the University of Washington) Of course they got muddy but it could of been worse I could have been hit by a car...oh wait I almost did. To the driver of a white Ford Explorer, your lucky I didn't have a golf club or I would have gone Jack Nicholson on you!
