College football in the northwest and its screwed up schedule

While BSU clinched the WAC championship with a win over Nevada last night, I am scratching my head over how they schedule their games. Basically, they're ESPN's poster team and usually get broadcasted on the World Wide Leader.

However, usually their games start at 7 p.m. pacific time, which is totally fine if they played in the pacific time zone. They do not, Boise is located in the mountain time zone, meaning that they actually start their games at 8 p.m. and don't wrap things around midnight. While everyone on the West Coast sees these games as kind of a prime-time matchup... Boise State fans kind of get the short end of the stick. Weird.

(Note: Listen to all the East Coast fans complaining when their baseball team plays till 1 a.m., now imagine if their team played till 1 a.m. every single night. Boy Boise St. fans sure are tough)

That being said, at least Boise St. is on ESPN, today I'm not sure if UW-WSU is even on TV, because don't you have to be a college football team to get on TV on Saturday?

And don't forget to listen to Eastern Washington vs. Stephen F. Austin today in the FCS playoffs at noon on 1510 KGA. That mid-day game is pretty much the only game that makes sense this Saturday.

News flash: Idaho does not like Boise St.

Nothing like a little story to spark the rivalry for the Idaho-Boise St. game this week which should be awesome. Apparently Vandals athletic director Rob Spear isn't a big Broncos fan. In fact, he wouldn't even fly in a plane with the BSU color scheme on it.

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP)—The Boise State vs. Idaho rivalry has taken to some not-so-friendly skies.

Idaho athletic director Rob Spear says he declined to board a Horizon Air flight after learning the airplane was painted in Boise State’s blue and orange colors.

Spear was traveling to Boise on Saturday for fundraising events. He requested another flight and then drove about 90 miles north to fly from the Spokane, Wash., airport to Boise.

Boise State and Horizon Air unveiled the plane, which sports the team logo on its tail, as an ode to the Broncos earlier this month.

I'm assuming that this plane only flies into minor cities and stuggles to land in larger airports. Just saying. Boise St. this year has been riding on their reputation alone and beating up (and sometimes barely squeaking by) on WAC opponents. That's why I don't listen to mid-major schools that complain about not playing for a national championship because they play against San Jean Weston State every week.

Good job Rob! Show Boise St. just how lame they are.

For ultimate ugly... tune into ESPN tonight!

On ESPN tonight, the Northwest will kick off the college football season with a matchup of ugly featuring these guys...

and these guys...

in this place...

The football gods are adjusting their television as we speak. I didn't know ESPN broadcasted AFL football games since, you know, they're out of business! This has to be the worst visual in sports since they did away with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers old uniforms. I'm going to have a seizure watching this game.

Boise State has managed to find something uglier than Oregon's uniforms

As if the blue smurf turf wasn't enough to make people adjust their televisions, Boise State is suggesting that fans where certain colors of shirts based on their seat section during their season opener against Oregon tomorrow. Look at the chart below...

Good god that looks like a pair of Starburys. I'm going to be puking in a bucket if I watch this game.

Shock game today vs. the worst uniforms in the league

Boise has never been known for its excellent uniform choices. I mean it is the same city that gave us the Smurf turf and the uniforms to match it at Boise State University. (And seriously guys, I will stand by the Idaho Vandals long before I ever root for the Broncos. Even if they go winless the next ten years. Which could actually happen).

Now their af2 team, which plays Spokane tonight at 7 p.m. in the Spokane Arena, is no better. Check out those duds above. I mean it's workable if you're a crossing guard or something but you'd think somebody would have brought it up in a board meeting with team ownership that you can't stare at the uniforms for more than like two seconds before your eyes start bleeding.

And brown helmets? Shiny brown helmets? This reminds me of that Dane Cook stand up where he says "Somebody s*** on the coats." Apparently somebody did the same to the helmets in the Boise Burn equipment room.

The team itself is actually quite good, they're ranked seventh in the Coaches Poll and are second in the West Division behind Spokane at 4-1. However, the Shock have already beaten the Burn in their home stadium 63-45. That was two weeks ago as Boise committed five turnovers.

Don't forgot to check in with Just South of North, as we'll have Dylan Kitzan running the live game blog!

Things I hate about Saturdays...

- When you turn on the TV in the morning, realize that ESPN is showing three college football games, and they're all Directional School that nobody cares about vs. mid-major conference power that likes the run the option a lot and nobody cares about.

- Trying to decide between a college basketball game or college football game.

- Hearing people complain about the BCS simply because other people are complaining about the BCS. I'm sorry but Utah, Boise St. and Ball State do not deserve a shot at the national title.

- Seeing Charlie Weis on the television.

- Saturday NFL games, oh they're coming... and it's going to be equally hard to justify to everyone that it's alright for you to go to the bar on Saturday morning.

- Charlie Weis.

- Oh almost forgot... Nick Saban.

This Saturday in College Football

With the stewing BCS blowup about to happen, let's enjoy this weekend before we hear coaches talk about why their two or three loss team should have a shot at a BCS Bowl Game. Or the undefeated mid-major team in the Pineapple Conference drum up support about how great their team is only to have their head beat in by the sixth-best team in the ACC. Before all that stuff happens, lets look at the scores:

No. 18 Georgia Tech 45, No. 13 Georgia 42 - And the Bulldogs' season continues to go down the drain.

Syracuse 10, No. 16 Cincinnati 30 -The Bearcats didn't want to pull a Notre Dame here and lose to a team that's lone claim to fame is that their jerseys are also used by crossing guards.

Kansas 40, No. 12 Missouri 37 - Remember when Missouri was considered a contender for the national title? We'll they'll enjoy the Papa Murphy's Take-and-Bake Bowl.

Baylor 28, No. 7 Texas Tech 35 - What's this? The Red Raiders made a defensive stop? Ye gods...

Auburn 0, No. 1 Alabama 36 - Well this goes to prove that SEC teams beat up on one another. Yep, Auburn sure showed Alabama... the door the the BCS championship game.

No. 2 Florida 45, No. 23 Florida St. 15 - Somebody needs to tell Tim Tebow that he should be starting for the Philadelphia Eagles right now.

Maryland 21, No. 20 Boston College 28 - More proof that the ACC doesn't beat up on one another, they just lay down for one another.

No. 19 Oregon, No. 17 Oregon St. - More to add to Civil War lore, Oregon denies Oregon St. a chance to go to the Rose Bowl. This makes things all the more bitter, somebody probably got stabbed in the neck because of this game. Wouldn't that stink: getting stabbed in the neck? Ouch.

Notre Dame 3, No. 5 USC 38 - Charlie Weis tried starting the Four Horsemen but it didn't work out because the last time they suited up the forward pass wasn't legal.

No. 3 Oklahoma 61, No. 11 Oklahoma St. 41 - Oklahoma is on pace to get blown out in the BCS Championship game again.

Western Michigan 22, No. 15 Ball State 45 - This is a statement game for Ball State. That statement is: Even though we're going undefeated, we're still not going to play for a national championship.

Texas A&M 9, No. 4 Texas 49 - A&M actually stands for Awful and My god, what happen to this once proud football program.

Mississippi State 0, No. 25 Mississippi 45 - Talk about one hell of a rivalry game.

Fresno St. 10, No. 9 Boise St. 61 - The WAC again showing that they're not a one-team conference.
