US developed Tsunami Bomb during WW2

The US obviously developed the Atomic Bomb and our excuse for using it has been that it saved countless lives from what would have otherwise been a costly land invasion of Japan. Although if the nuke has not been so persausive, we also had another ace up our sleeves...

(To buy a book on the Japan Invasion, click here.)

The tests were carried out in waters around New Caledonia and Auckland during the Second World War and showed that the weapon was feasible and a series of 10 large offshore blasts could potentially create a 33-foot tsunami capable of inundating a small city.

The top secret operation, code-named "Project Seal", tested the doomsday device as a possible rival to the nuclear bomb. About 3,700 bombs were exploded during the tests, first in New Caledonia and later at Whangaparaoa Peninsula, near Auckland.

I'm assuming that we may have started Tsunami-ing Japan has they not complied with surrender. It does make me wonder though that if 1940s technology could develop a rather sinister weapon like this - what do the world's military's have under wraps that they're not telling us about?

Pretty sure dumping radioactive water into the ocean is a bad idea

Doesn't this raise any red flags to anyone?

Tokyo (CNN) -- Japan began dumping thousands of tons of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean on Monday, an emergency move officials said was needed to curtail a worse leak from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

In all, about 11,500 tons of radioactive water that has collected at the nuclear facility will be dumped into the sea, officials said Monday, as workers also try to deal with a crack that has been a conduit for contamination.

And no one has a problem with this? I mean you're putting terrible toxic material into the Pacific Ocean! Remember the last time that happened? Yeah this guy...

However, apparently it's not that big of deal, or so they want to make you think...

"To put this in perspective, the Pacific Ocean holds about 300 trillion swimming pools full of water and they're going to release about five swimming pools full of water. So hopefully the churning of the ocean and the currents will quickly disperse this so that it gets to very dilute concentrations relatively quickly," said Timothy Jorgensen, chair of the radiation safety committee at Georgetown University Medical Center.

"It's a considerable amount of water, but the immensity of the Pacific Ocean will quickly dilute this amount of water to harmless levels," he added.

Right, and it will just fade away and disappear. No long-term issues or anything. We've never had anything like that before right?

Apparently Ichiro Suzuki will play baseball until he's 80

With Casey and I getting up in years, I mean lets face facts - we can't wait to order off of the 55 and older menu at Denny's, we've been thinking about life expectancy...

And apparently Japan has the highest life expectancy.

A girl born in Japan today will likely live to celebrate her 86th birthday, the longest life expectancy anywhere in the world. Men fare best in the tiny European nation of San Marino, where the average boy will live to 81, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

The West African country of Sierra Leone has the shortest life expectancy for men — just 39 — while Afghanistan fares badly for both sexes, with men and women living on average to 41 and 42 years respectively.

How did the United States fare? Despite us all being fat and owning guns, we actually rated pretty well.

In the United States, the life expectancy for men rose to 76 from 72 years, and for women to 81 from 79 years.

In Russia, the average life expectancy for men dropped to 60 from 64 years since the time of the Soviet Union. For women the drop was less marked, to 73 from 74 years.

... Although I better lay off the vodka.

Banzuke is Unbeatable

Boy do I love myself some Japanese game shows. And if you're even inclined to watch one, then I would recommend the ultimate physical game show known as Unbeatable Banzuke on the channel G4.

Basically it pits normal contestants against obstacle courses that would make Sonic the Hedgehog blush. We're talking treadmills, crazy jumps, suspension bridges and water hazards.

Sometimes they do it on unicycles, sometime stilts, sometimes (actually most of the time) they fall flat on their face in a hilarious clip that will be replayed over and over.

It's entertainment, that's for sure. Just watch this...

How did I find such a wonderful show? Funny thing, while recovering from a hangover before the wedding of none other than Joel Willits from FishBear Sports, James from Collegiate Handyman and I spent most of the day watching this show in the Tri-Cities.

We watched something like six to ten episodes since G4 was running a marathon. We were rewarded in watching idiots like this...

And people like this...

Definitely worth an afternoon.
