It may be the winter months, but that doesn't really apply in California. Here's a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco in the background. 

High School Sports Feature: Liberty baseball one to watch

Today the Baseball Northwest Top Player list came out.

One high school really caught my eye and that is Liberty High School. Liberty, located along Renton and Issaquah, had four players named to the list. Three juniors and senior.

The juniors are:

Troy Colyer, INF --number 39 on the list to watch
Nick Hart, INF
John McCleod, LHP

The senior is of course Eric Peterson.

Name doesn't sound familiar? Well then you must not pay attention to high school sports. Don't worry, that's our job here at Just South of North. But now you will know.

Peterson is a shortstop with the Patriots of Liberty, but in December of 2008 he committed to play ball for the University of Washington next spring.

The last player to go from Liberty to the UW was Tim Lincecum. Lincecum led the Patriots to the 3A State Championship. And last season he won the National League Cy Young award with the San Francisco Giants.

As for Peterson, who started for Liberty since he was a freshman, he'll be focusing on his senior season for now. But next year he'll be playing off of Lake Washington.

So you might say that Liberty is a bit of a baseball powerhouse. I guess that in a few weeks when they take the field we'll find out how much of one.

Sometimes I give the French a little more razzing than they deserve. I must applaud their anti-Chinese protests as the Olympic flame was paraded through their city. Here's a caption from the photo above...

Apparently things got testy in Paris, because French people get really pissy when governments start taking away freedom. I wish Americans would do the same but we're too busy getting Tivo to work.

(Actually, San Francisco is bracing for the worst when the Olympic torch comes through their town. I hope things get rocking because we know the Bay area loves a great political protest)

Sorry China, but until you start treating your people like human beings, you shouldn't be allowed to host the Olympics. Now go block this blog from your people's search engines...

The San Francisco Treat

Founded in 1776 by the Spanish, San Francisco got the second biggest shock in it's history when I came to town last weekend. It's first "big shock" came when I visited the town two years ago. While a talented writer would come up with some clever blog about how great the place is, all I can really do is show you my pictures from the trip.

So this first photo wasn't taken in San Fran, but I wanted to show you all what it's like to fly in Washington State. You fly by mountains. Big ones. Have you ever heard of planes flying into mountains.

That is why I'm terrified of flying.

This was my breakfast one morning while on the trip. Still wondering why I have health problems at age 22, am chubbier than Matthew Perry in the late 90s, and have back fat?

Yep didn't think so.

I can't tell you how many times I made a "The Rock" quote while taking photos of the Alcatraz. Somebody said I sounded like Darth Vader, which really wasn't the effect I was going for.

Also if you're with three other girls, don't drop the "Losers always whine about their best, Winners go home and f*** the prom queen"

It probably won't go over so well.

Here's the view from the floor in my hotel. A pretty fantastic view if you ask me, and well above street level where the pan handler's brigade was waiting with arms wide open.

At least it wasn't the Travelocity Gnome...

Heading to San Fran

Washington just couldn't contain my ginger-ness. I'm headed to San Francisco the next couple of days for a journalism conference and will update you all on my adventures.

And trust me, there will be adventures.

Hopefully I don't run into this guy.
