The NFL Draft just happened and no doubt everyone expects to win the Super Bowl with their new acquisitions. While it can be an exciting event, it can also be a gut punch when you're team picks someone you've never heard of from (insert small regional university here) with a beer belly. Here are some players you don't want to see your team draft...
1. He had a terrible senior year but he played well in the bowl game against washed-up team no. 4 - Oh boy, since when does 300 yards and 18-for-20 passing with two touchdowns in a meaningless bowl game against a team that's coach isn't returning actually mean anything? He'll do well against the best players in the world right? Suuureee...
2. After someone's name "from Jester Wild Junior Community College" is spoken - But the scout has a hunch about this one right? Wait he isn't in New York to pick up his jersey on the podium? Why the heck not!?!!?!
3. Anyone from Duke University - Basketball or Football. Either or.
4. A quarterback with a piece of furniture or vegetation in their last name - Stick quarterbacks with states and first names as their last names. It never fails.
5. A name that confuses Mel Kiper Jr. and causes his hairpiece to fall off - Because you know that Kiper has poured over every university's roster for the entire year to prepare for this one event. If this guy's name didn't ring a bell, than chances are your team drafted somebody that should be playing in the indoor football league.
6. A Canadian - I know there is Canadian football, but I'm wondering if the Canadian high schools and colleges play under Canadian rules or you know, play the type of football you can get paid for playing.
7. A French person - Oh boy. If they have "Pierre" in the name, your team is royally screwed.
8. A lineman battling "weight problems" - Because they're about to get millions of dollars to help them with their "weight problems."
10. Osama Bin Laden - I hear his draft stock is plummeting right now...

Locker number 1?
Ok, so a bit early, but NBC Sports has released their 2010 NFL mock draft.
And at number one, going to the Cleveland Browns, is University of Washington's own, Jake Locker.
Here's their reasoning:
A 10th-round pick in the 2009 MLB entry draft, Locker is a multi-talented athlete whose focus is on the gridiron. He can make all the throws, pick up positive yards on the run, and has stayed effective on bad Huskies teams. The Browns are desperate for a franchise quarterback after giving up on Brady Quinn and watching Derek Anderson perform poorly two years running.
Now that's all fine and dandy except that are they forgetting every year before this? Locker has been a terrible passer until this season. One good year doesn't justify a number one overall pick to me. But what do I know. I just work for a blog.
Plus, I hope he comes back cause he'll give the Huskies the best change of going to a bowl game next year.

Why the NFL draft is dumb

I hope all of your out there are enjoying Mel Kiper Jr.'s hair and a bunch of no-neck NFL fans cheering on the fact that they just got the third-string wide-receiver from USC in the sixth round.
Can I just say one thing? Whoop-de-freakin-do.
For all the casual NFL fans out there that watch a grand total of like three quarters of their favorite team play, listening to them try to struggle through a conversation about the NFL draft is pretty entertaining. You should hear some of the hair-brained schemes that some fan come up with.
"You know if we get Gerald Greenskocky, the alcoholic quarterback out of West-Middle-Central state, we could have a general on the field in about four years."
Seriously, stop the analysis, stop the fortune-telling and lets cut down to the real meat of the NFL Draft.
Nobody knows who's going to be good and who's going to be bad. You're talking about a span of anywhere between six months to 15 years to determine if anybody is going to be of value in the league. Good luck.
And sometimes its not even a reflection of the players themselves, sometimes they get drafted by terrible teams that don't give them a chance in the first place. In the end, the NFL Draft is just an ESPN-hyped side show that really holds no immediate importance. Sure, it does affect you down the road, but who remembers the draft from five years ago? Anyone? Please give me the round-by-round analysis and rundown on what we thought of the Seahawks fifth round draft pick. Please?
It's the most overrated event in all of sports. I missed the NFL Draft to go to EWU's Red-White game. And I made the right decision.

Rocky to the NYC
Another Seahawk free agent is gone. So long Rocky Bernard.
Bernard, entering his eighth season, signed a four-year $16 million deal with the New York Giants.
He was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2002 draft out of Texas A & M.
During his first three seasons he mainly served as a back up, but over time he started in 55 of 103 regular season games with Seattle.
The loss of first Morris, now Bernard and the additions of no one is beginning to make many Seahawks fans wonder, "who'll be the next to leave the Emerald City? And will any one else come?"
