Hilarious Planet Fitness Commercial

Now Brandon has been "bulking up" for a while. And we actually had a converstation that went something like this the other day. It was strange to say the least...

(Help us out by buying your fitness equipment HERE)

A lunk according to Planet Fitness is someone who drops weights, grunts or screams during workouts. They even have an alarm that will go off.

Well, someone has now recreated the entire video in what else but LEGOs! Check it out, it's pretty awesome.

Capture Bigfoot For A Reward

The Olympia Beer has put out a reward for the capture of a live bigfoot. That's right, Olympia Beer is still around! I had no idea.

No wait.

I mean, a reward for capturing bigfoot is the most important part of this story!

(Read about Bigfoot! : The True Story of Apes in America, from a real cryptozoologist Loreen Coleman by going HERE)

Well it's true. Offered by the one and only Olympia Beer, you can get 1 million dollars (paid out in tiny amounts for 40 years) if you can find irrefutable evidence of the existence of Bigfoot or if you capture him alive and unharmed.

Now I love cryptozoology and have talked about it a number of times on the blog. But now with the opportunity to make money at it I'm in! Who wants to join mine and Brandon's team?

This is seriously the most clever marketing strategy ever! Find this elusive creature, make money and get exposure for your product.

But again, I'm not sure which is more elusive, finding Olympia Beer in a bar or finding bigfoot...

Year Five: Yes, FIVE

Somehow we have made it five years! Yes, this blog started in January of 2008 and five years later Just South of North is still going strong.

http://c-product.images.fansedge.com/32-27/32-27622-1-Y.jpgSo thank you to all our readers. For without you we wouldn't have a blog.

Here's some famous 5's from the sports world:

1. Joe DiMaggio was a 13-time all-star, three-time MVP, and according to Ted Williams, was "the greatest all-around player I ever saw." Of course, he holds the current record for consecutive games with a hit, at 56, accomplished in 1941.

2. Jason Kidd's number 5 is retried by the University of Cal, 10 NBA All-Star, 5 time All-NBA First Team, 4 time All-Defensive First Team, an NBA champion, a Pac-10 player of the year and an NCAA All-American.

3. Donovan McNabb was a six time Pro Bowl selections, an NFC Champion, an NFC Offensive Player of the Year, he threw for 37,276 yards with a passer rating of 85.6.

4. Kasey Kahne is my favorite NASCAR driver from Enumclaw, Washington. He drives the number 5 car in the Sprint Cup Series and last season finished fourth in the series. He has 14 wins, 121 top tens and 26 poles.

5. Ray Finkle is famous from Ace Ventura and will forever be known for missing the kick and then kidnapping Dan Marino. Who'd forget this quote from Ray's mom? " It was all that Dan Marino's fault, everyone knows that. If he had held the ball, laces out, like he was supposed to, Ray would never have missed that kick. Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell. Would you like a cookie, son?"

Hiking Mt. Si

On Saturday I headed up Mt. Si in North Bend, WA. It was a foggy, drizzly day at my house, but it was the exact opposite at Mt. Si. It honestly felt like a nice spring day. Sure the summit was cold from the wind, but in the treeline it was warm and sunny.

(Here's a book featuring 100 Classic Hikes in Washington)

And here's some of the pictures I got of the views:

A panoramic shot from the summit. Mt. Rainier is in the distance and Seattle is somewhere in the fog below.

Ron Swanson is the MAN!

Anyone who is anyone will tell you that the manliest man out there is of course Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec. He's a man among men.

(Catch up on all the Parks and Rec seasons here)

Here are some of my favorite Ron Swanson quotes:

  • “I have been developing the Swanson Pyramid of Greatness for years. It’s a perfectly calibrated recipe for maximum personal achievement. Categories include: Capitalism, God’s way of determining who is smart, and who is poor. Crying, acceptable at funerals and the Grand Canyon. Rage. Poise. Property rights. Fish, for sport only, not for meat. Fish meat is practically a vegetable.”
  • “I am submitting this menu from a Pawnee institution, J.J.’s Diner. Home of the world’s best breakfast dish: The Four Horsemeals of the Eggporkalypse.”
  •  “You may have thought you heard me say I wanted a lot of bacon and eggs, but what I said was: Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.”
  •  "I got my first job when I was nine. Working at the sheet metal factory. In two weeks I was running the floor. Child labor laws are ruining this county!"

  •  "I have cried twice in my life. Once when I was seven and I was hit by a school bus. And then again when I heard that Li’l Sebastian had passed."

Wizard Gandalf Style

The world has pretty much been taken over by "Gangnam Style " by Psy.

But this is the best parody that I have seen. It's called "Gandalf Style" and sings about Hobbits and the Lord of the Rings. And with the Hobbit and theaters, you can buy the The Lord of the Rings on blu ray. A perfect gift!

Enjoy Wizard Gandalf Style!

Portlandia Season 3

While Seattle might have Grey's Anatomy, Portland has Portlandia. And it's one of the funniest shows on TV!

Having been to Portland many times myself, the show pretty much perfectly describes the Rose City. And how awesome it is.

When I first heard about this show a few years ago I knew it was something I had to check out. And then their "Dream of the 90s is Alive in Portland" video came out and I knew it was going to be awesome. Well after two seasons the laughs keep coming and with season three on the way I can't wait.

Here's one of my favorite Portlandia skits featuring the Portland Timbers and perhaps the greatest soccer cheer of all time. Check it out:

Tune in to "Winter in Portlandia" on Friday, Dec. 14. The new season starts Friday, Jan. 4 on IFC.

While you wait for Portlandia season three be sure to check out Portlandia: Season 1 and Portlandia: Season 2 on DVD and don't forget about Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors

Unicycle Gandalf and Lord of the Rings

Like most of the country, the Northwest is getting pretty excited for the release of The Hobbit! Check out this guy in Portland, Oregon. He's really, really excited! (And pretty amazingly talented AND dressed like Gandalf)

"One does not simply unicycle into Mordor."

While we wait for the movie to come out why not buy The Hobbit to read while you wait. Or maybe pick up The Lord of the Rings: The Trilogy on blu-ray. Awesome!

Delta's 2.74 pound mountain bike

This bike is a beast! It weighs in at just 2.74 pounds and it's frame is made of carbon fiber and Kevlar.

Delta 7‘s awesome new Antrix Mountain bike is sure to make any bike enthusiast’s jaw drop. Designed for rugged terrain, this beauty of a bike features a patented IsoTruss carbon fiber and Kevlar “spider web-like” tube frame, and its smart yet stealth frame weighs in at just 2.74 lbs! The Arantix is buit to withstand extreme use, and its unparalleled strength-to-weight ratio results in an ultra stiff and responsive bike. No price has been revealed yet, but a limited production of just 200 frames should tell you something.

It's pretty sweet, but somehome I'm guessing out of my price range.

L.E.D. snowboarder

This is one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile. Happy Friday! Hit the snow over the long weekend!

Fashion photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton swaps the studio for the slopes of Tignes in the Rhône-Alpes region of south-eastern France, with a luminous after hours short starring Artec pro snowboarder William Hughes. The electrifying film sees Hughes light up the snow-covered French hills in a bespoke L.E.D.-enveloped suit courtesy of designer and electronics whizz John Spatcher.

"I was really drawn to the idea of a lone character made of light surfing through darkness," says Sutton of his costume choice. "I've always been excited by unusual ways of lighting things, so it seemed like an exciting idea to make the subject of the film the only light source."

Sutton, who has created work for the likes of Hermès, Burberry and The New York Times, spent three nights on a skidoo with his trusty Red Epic camera at temperatures of -25C to snap Hughes carving effortlessly through the deep snow, even enlisting his own father to help maintain the temperamental suit throughout the demanding shoot.

"Filming in the suit was the most surreal thing I've done in 20 years of snowboarding," says Hughes of the charged salopettes. "Luckily there was plenty of vin rouge to keep me warm, and Jacob's enthusiasm kept everyone going through the cold nights."

Honey Badger Wonderful Pistachios

The Honey Badger don't care.

It's a true statement. And now he apparently likes pistachios.

Wonderful pistachios has some of the most creative commercials out there. And their latest one is even more proof of this.

Oh, and in case you have been under a rock and don't know how much the honey badger don't care. Enjoy!

(Warning: some dead snake scenes and some language)

OK Go and The Muppets

If you read JustSON then you know that I'm stoked for The Muppets this fall. Well check out OK Go with a new version of the song.

And in classic Muppet style the video is filled with hilarious punchlines.

"Let's watch cat videos."

And just wait for the end...

Angels and Airwaves "Anxiety"

One of my favorite bands of all time is Angels and Airwaves. I've been following them since their debut album dropped back in 2005.

I saw them live when they came to Seattle last year too.

Well the band is set to release a new album later this year and the first single was released on Wednesday. Titled "Anxiety" it's pure Angels and Airwaves.

Check it out:
