Jack in the Box hires robot workers

I went into Jack in the Box tonight in Issaquah, Washington to get a burger.

I walked inside, and to my surprise there was no workers. There was only the machine (pictured right). I had to order using it.

It was simple to use with a touch screen. You just pushed the buttons for what you wanted and pay right there.

In other words, another human job was taken away by machines.

How long until machines are also in the back making the burgers?

What are your thoughts on this?

Oregon football: Thanks NIKE

The University of Oregon is known for having ugly football uniforms, but this years might top all years past. Check out the "carbon fiber" helmet above. Down the middle of the helmet it says "go hard. go oregon. go ducks."

And you want a complete taste of the Oregon uniform combinations?

Check out this site.

It lets you pick different looks for the Ducks, and then shows you what the team wore in each game each week.

Today, against Utah, the Ducks are wearing white helmets, green jerseys and silver pants.

Silver?!? WTF!!! That's not one of their colors!

And on a side note, sadly I was correct and White River got pounded by Lakes with a final of Lakes 48, White River 3. Lakes is a powerhouse and will surely make ripples in the State Playoffs.

JustSON Friday Night Lights Edition

We're starting a new Friday feature here at JustSON. We're going to be previewing the big games according to the Tacoma News Tribune. We'll show you their picks for the games, and then we'll give you ours.

Huge high school football game out in Sammamish, Washington tonight. I live just down the road from Skyline and have gone to some games last year. They are impressive. Here's the Tacoma News Tribunes take on the game tonight:

Oaks Christian (Calif.) at No. 1 Skyline, 7 p.m. today
Plenty of star power here – before getting to celebrities in the stands. Some recruiting experts consider Skyline QB Jake Heaps the top prep quarterback in the country. Oaks Christian QB Nick Montana, son of NFL legend Joe Montana, has given an oral commitment to Washington. Some of Montana’s teammates have equally famous fathers in Wayne Gretzky and Will Smith, who are expected to be in attendance. The game will be televised live on ESPNU. Oaks Christian is ranked No. 6 in USA Today’s Super 25; Skyline is No. 17.

The TNT Pick: Skyline 24, Oaks Christian 23. Home-field advantage favors Skyline.

The JustSON Pick: Oaks Christian 28, Skyline 21. The stars are in line for Oaks Christian tonight, and it's too much for Heaps. This will be Heaps first loss in high school.

Here's the rest of the GAMES OF THE WEEK from the TNT:

SPSL South
No. 10 Curtis (2-0, 2-0) at Rogers (1-1, 1-1), 7 p.m. today at Sparks Stadium
The News Tribune pick: Curtis 31, Rogers 21

The JustSON pick: Curtis 38, Rogers 21

SPSL North
Kentwood (1-1, 0-1) at Tahoma (2-0, 2-0), 7 p.m. today
The News Tribune pick: Tahoma 26, Kentwood 20

The JustSON pick: Tahoma 30, Kentwood 17- Tahoma is powerful this year, Kentwood isn't as good as years past.

Non-league
No. 4 Orting (2-0) at Meridian (1-1), 7 p.m. today
The News Tribune pick: Orting 38, Meridian 20

The JustSON pick: Orting 45, Meridian 13 - Orting has a highpower offense this year. They're good.

Non-league
2A No. 7 Sequim (2-0) at 1A No. 7 Cascade Christian (2-0), 7 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Chev Stadium
The News Tribune pick: Sequim 27, Cascade Christian 19

The JustSON pick:
Sequim 35, Cascade Christian 31 - A close one, but Sequim pulls it off.

Check back tomorrow and we'll give you the results of the games and how we match up against the TNT.

Also, a little shoutout to my alma mater, White River High School.

Unlikely Titantic Second-ranked Lakes travels to White River for an unlikely meeting of undefeated SPSL 3A teams tonight. The Lancers (2-0, 2-0) are sitting atop the standings, and the surprising Hornets (2-0, 2-0) are right there with them. After going 1-9 last season, White River has outscored Franklin Pierce and Sumner by a total of 65-28.

The JustSON pick: Sadly, I see Lakes winning in a blowout.

It's Friday. Time to party. This is how the Northern Rangers get down on Friday nights.

MLS in question in Portland

In March Portland was told that the Timbers could join the MLS. This would renew the extreme rivalry between the Sounders and the Timbers.

Well, when Portland was given the team, the MLS said that they needed to get some things in order before October 1.

October 1 is approaching and the deals haven't been met.

Here's an SI article about what is happening south on I-5 and what yet needs to happen for the Sounders and Timbers to renew their rivalry in 2011.

Wonderful security features in Spokane, WA

If you're in the Spokane area, you've probably heard about the criminally insane killer that escaped after the Eastern State Hospital thought it would be cool to take 30 of their inmates/patients to the Interstate Fair. Why a killer was included in that group and why Eastern State Hospital takes dangerous people on field trips is beyond me, but this is Spokane, and this is one of those cities that you would imagine this kind of stuff would happen. Why, because...

1. The Spokane Police Department is actually comprised of one guy named Bob who likes donuts, and one guy named Chuck who likes to taser mentally disabled people. They also have a pet monkey, Barry, that is their drug enforcement cop.

2. Instead of actually locking doors in Spokane, most people just put a photo of Adam Morrison (pre cut hair) on the front of it to scare anyone away.

3. Security at public events consists of guards poking backpacks with sticks and if they blow up, they've found a bomb.

4. Grand planning has the Spokane County Jail right by the Spokane Arena, a public gathering place. But no worries, they have a YMCA in between the two. No kids go to those places or anything.

5. Instead of bomb sniffing dogs, Spokane Police use goats.

Microsoft sponsors Seahawks jerseys

The Seahawks are adding Microsoft as the sponsors of their practice uniforms. Which means that Microsoft, who already sponsors the Sounders FC uniforms, now has the Seahawks and the Sounders. Wait till they get a hold of the Mariners and then they truly will own Seatttle.

This photo comes from Matt Hasselbeck's twitter page. That's his jersey with the new patch.

RENTON, Wash. – The Seahawks announced a new partnership with Microsoft Corp’s Bing search engine as the team's presenting partner for the 2009 season. The Seahawks will wear Bing’s logo on the team’s practice jerseys.

“The Seahawks and Bing are a perfect brand match and we’re proud to connect the “decision engine” (Bing) with our decision engine - the coaches and players on the practice field,” said Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke. “We viewed the available space on our practice jersey as sacred, not simply a billboard opportunity, and reserved it for only a truly authentic brand match with a partner that shares our core values. There is not a better fit in our minds than with our friends and neighbors at Microsoft and Bing.”

This is the first time a partner’s logo will be featured on the Seahawks practice jerseys. Bing patches will be positioned on the left chest area of the jerseys, which are worn year-round by the team, beginning with today’s practice.

With Bing still in its initial product launch window and focused on continuing to build momentum, their alliance with the Seahawks will not only feature the broad exposure connected to their jersey presence, but also several other fully-integrated national and regional marketing elements connected to team’s website, broadcast media, game presentation, and overall fan experience, all designed to raise awareness and stimulate new Bing user activity.

“Bing is proud to join with the Seahawks for the 2009 season. As our hometown team and a great supporter of Seattle and Microsoft, we feel confident we can do great things together over the course of the year,” said Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the Online Audience Business Group at Microsoft. “Bing offers great ways for Seahawks fans to plan amazing game experiences, from searching for local businesses around the stadium to booking travel for away games. Bing’s the best place for the connected Seahawks fan.”

Seahawks players will also wear the Bing logoed practice jerseys at community appearances throughout the season.

Epic Photo: Well, this is ironic.

And oh, so funny.

AL Wild Card Standings

Ladies and gentlemen, the AL Wild Card Standings...

Boston8658.597-
Texas (12)8065.552
Seattle (6)7571.51412
Minnesota (5)7472.50713

If you took a close look, you'll see that Boston is now 6 and half games ahead in the standings and with 18 games to go, that's a lot of ground to make up for Texas. And then don't forget that Seattle is floating around still, 12 games back and lurking. By lurking I mean Seattle is in the parking lot, warming up the car, ready to drive off into the sunset that is another season without the playoffs. Overall, looks like the Sox might be playing some extra games after all...

Shock to join AFL 2.0

It looks like Spokane has just gone big-time... as the Shock are looking to join the new Arena Football League that will be forming in the ashes of the AFL.

“I was asked every single year: Would you ever join the AFL? And I always said, ‘No, it wouldn’t make any sense.’ Under the new scenario, it does make sense and I think we’re going to have a chance to play in a little bigger pond and have the big boys come to town and see what it’s like to play in our building.” Nelson said he can’t discuss specifics because details are still being worked out, but the new league could have 12-15 teams, including four former af2 franchises, several from the defunct AFL and a few expansion teams. Former af2 teams could include Spokane, Tulsa, Iowa and Milwaukee. Utah, Arizona, San Jose, Orlando, Tampa Bay and Chicago – all part of the AFL, which folded after the 2008 season – have been mentioned as candidates for the new league.

And pay will be improved... kind of.

Players in the top-tier league likely would make $400 per game for the first season, up from the $200 (plus $50 for a win) per-game salary in af2.

An official announcement isn’t expected for at least a week or two. The new league hopes to announce a schedule sometime in October.

Can't wait to see what happens with this.

Snuggie!

I'm sure you've all heard about the Snuggie. You know, the blanket with sleeves. Supposedly it's the perfect item to stay warm everywhere from your living room to a sporting event.

All the big names came out for New York Fashion Week: Marc. Vera. Snuggie. Yes, Snuggie - the blanket with sleeves - staged a runway show on Tuesday, complete with high-fashion models and a new "urban jungle" line of zebra and leopard prints.

Here's the original Snuggie commerical:

I think I'll order one of these for the football games this year. I won't look like a douche out there in this! There's no way!

Here, this guy agrees with me: (warning, some non PG language)

Epic Photo: Whoops, wrong turn

I've always wanted to be a storm chaser, but this seems a little too close for comfort.

Here's the link to this great storm photography story.

You know you're in a 20-somethings apartment when...

- Your furniture is a collection of cardboard boxes.

- Everyone who lives there has approximately 200 DVDs a piece... and they're all on the floor.

- The walls are covered by posters from sports teams, bands and movies.

- There's more dirty laundry in the apartment than clean dishes.

- The centerpiece of the entire apartment is your flat screen TV and the XBox 360.

- Your bed is a half-twin size.

- There are mounds and mounds of Top Raumen.

Return of Dice-K (and posts about the Boston Red Sox!)

He's baaaack.

After ruining his arm and shoulder for most of the 2009 season, blaming the Boston Red Sox staff for doing it (even though he pitched too much in the World Baseball Classic) and living on the DL, Daisuke Matsuzaka brings his sparkling 8.23 ERA and 1-5 record back to the rotation.

He'll start tonight against the loaded Los Angeles Angels, meaning Dice-K is basically jumping into a frying pan by facing that lineup.

However, if he's finally healthy this season, Dice-K might be exactly what the Boston Red Sox need. That's if he's returned to his six-inning, 130 pitch routine instead of his batting practice form so far this season.

The Sox will take that when you look at their rotation after Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and Clay Buckholtz. Wakefield's back is a question mark, they jettisoned Smoltz and Penny, and does anyone trust Paul Byrd. They're 4.5 games ahead in the Wild Card race so they do have some room to experiment here.

So um, welcome back Dice-K, the most expensive fourth of fifth starter in the league.
