Christmas ideas for the outdoors
So you're not sure what to get that outdoor loving person for Christmas. Well, might I make a suggestion? If they are into kayaking, maybe you should get them something unique, original, and something that shows you put some thought into it (even though I really did all the work, but I won't tell if you don't).
I'm talking about a Hei Matau necklace. The Hei Matau is a bone that is carved into a stylized symbol of a fish hook. It is a symbol of the Māori people of New Zealand.
The legend holds that the north island of New Zealand was once a huge fish caught by Maui, the great Mariner, using only a woven line and a bone hook. For the Maori, the Hei Matau represents Strength, Prosperity, Fertility and a great respect for the sea. It is worn by travelers to provide good luck and safe passage over open water.
The best site that I have found to purchase Hei Matau necklaces, as well as other Maori Tonga symbols, is Wanderer Imports LLC.
It's a small company, and from the reviews I have read about various necklaces, the best ones come from Wanderer Imports.
So give a great gift to the outdoor lover in your life, and give them not just a happy holiday season, but safe travel whereever their adventures may take them.
