Hilarious Planet Fitness Commercial

Now Brandon has been "bulking up" for a while. And we actually had a converstation that went something like this the other day. It was strange to say the least...

(Help us out by buying your fitness equipment HERE)

A lunk according to Planet Fitness is someone who drops weights, grunts or screams during workouts. They even have an alarm that will go off.

Year Five: Yes, FIVE

Somehow we have made it five years! Yes, this blog started in January of 2008 and five years later Just South of North is still going strong.

http://c-product.images.fansedge.com/32-27/32-27622-1-Y.jpgSo thank you to all our readers. For without you we wouldn't have a blog.

Here's some famous 5's from the sports world:

1. Joe DiMaggio was a 13-time all-star, three-time MVP, and according to Ted Williams, was "the greatest all-around player I ever saw." Of course, he holds the current record for consecutive games with a hit, at 56, accomplished in 1941.

2. Jason Kidd's number 5 is retried by the University of Cal, 10 NBA All-Star, 5 time All-NBA First Team, 4 time All-Defensive First Team, an NBA champion, a Pac-10 player of the year and an NCAA All-American.

3. Donovan McNabb was a six time Pro Bowl selections, an NFC Champion, an NFC Offensive Player of the Year, he threw for 37,276 yards with a passer rating of 85.6.

4. Kasey Kahne is my favorite NASCAR driver from Enumclaw, Washington. He drives the number 5 car in the Sprint Cup Series and last season finished fourth in the series. He has 14 wins, 121 top tens and 26 poles.

5. Ray Finkle is famous from Ace Ventura and will forever be known for missing the kick and then kidnapping Dan Marino. Who'd forget this quote from Ray's mom? " It was all that Dan Marino's fault, everyone knows that. If he had held the ball, laces out, like he was supposed to, Ray would never have missed that kick. Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell. Would you like a cookie, son?"

Ron Swanson is the MAN!

Anyone who is anyone will tell you that the manliest man out there is of course Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec. He's a man among men.

(Catch up on all the Parks and Rec seasons here)

Here are some of my favorite Ron Swanson quotes:

  • “I have been developing the Swanson Pyramid of Greatness for years. It’s a perfectly calibrated recipe for maximum personal achievement. Categories include: Capitalism, God’s way of determining who is smart, and who is poor. Crying, acceptable at funerals and the Grand Canyon. Rage. Poise. Property rights. Fish, for sport only, not for meat. Fish meat is practically a vegetable.”
  • “I am submitting this menu from a Pawnee institution, J.J.’s Diner. Home of the world’s best breakfast dish: The Four Horsemeals of the Eggporkalypse.”
  •  “You may have thought you heard me say I wanted a lot of bacon and eggs, but what I said was: Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.”
  •  "I got my first job when I was nine. Working at the sheet metal factory. In two weeks I was running the floor. Child labor laws are ruining this county!"

  •  "I have cried twice in my life. Once when I was seven and I was hit by a school bus. And then again when I heard that Li’l Sebastian had passed."

NFL Lip Reading

I came across this video and since the Seattle Seahawks season is over I needed something else to consume time time.

And then I found NFL Lip Reading. It's HILARIOUS!

The Hobbit - ONE RING (One Direction 'One Thing' Parody)

Brandon wrote a great review of The Hobbit earlier this week, and since one of his favorite bands is One Direction it seemed like a match made in heaven when someone made a Lord of the Rings and One Direction parody! It's pretty hilarious. Check it out:

Wizard Gandalf Style

The world has pretty much been taken over by "Gangnam Style " by Psy.

But this is the best parody that I have seen. It's called "Gandalf Style" and sings about Hobbits and the Lord of the Rings. And with the Hobbit and theaters, you can buy the The Lord of the Rings on blu ray. A perfect gift!

Enjoy Wizard Gandalf Style!

Jacksonville Jaguars season from a 12 year olds perspective

If YouTube would have been around when I was a kid I'd have made a song like this every season for all of my childhood.

Thank goodness it wasn't.

But this girl did a great job with making a song about the Jacksonville Jaguars to the "We Are Never Getting Back Together" from Taylor Swift.

But it's called "We Are Never Getting Any Better."

And sadly, for Jacksonville fans, it's true.

Portlandia Season 3

While Seattle might have Grey's Anatomy, Portland has Portlandia. And it's one of the funniest shows on TV!

Having been to Portland many times myself, the show pretty much perfectly describes the Rose City. And how awesome it is.

When I first heard about this show a few years ago I knew it was something I had to check out. And then their "Dream of the 90s is Alive in Portland" video came out and I knew it was going to be awesome. Well after two seasons the laughs keep coming and with season three on the way I can't wait.

Here's one of my favorite Portlandia skits featuring the Portland Timbers and perhaps the greatest soccer cheer of all time. Check it out:

Tune in to "Winter in Portlandia" on Friday, Dec. 14. The new season starts Friday, Jan. 4 on IFC.

While you wait for Portlandia season three be sure to check out Portlandia: Season 1 and Portlandia: Season 2 on DVD and don't forget about Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors

Unicycle Gandalf and Lord of the Rings

Like most of the country, the Northwest is getting pretty excited for the release of The Hobbit! Check out this guy in Portland, Oregon. He's really, really excited! (And pretty amazingly talented AND dressed like Gandalf)

"One does not simply unicycle into Mordor."

While we wait for the movie to come out why not buy The Hobbit to read while you wait. Or maybe pick up The Lord of the Rings: The Trilogy on blu-ray. Awesome!

Cat Friend vs Dog Friend

Everyone has them. The friends that are super hyper and always active. You also have those other friends that you're not really sure why you're friends with anyway. And those are just your pets! Well, what if your human friends acted like your pets? Check out this video. It's pretty funny!

That reminds me, I need to buy some more Pet Supplies for my animals!

Peyton Manning's best

With the Peyton Manning era officially coming to an end in Indy today, we at Just South of North thought what better way to honor him then with a tribute of his best commercials.

So please enjoy!

"That Peyton Manning guy is pretty good. If you're into 6' 5" 230 pound quarterbacks with laser-rocket arms."

Portland Timbers tattoo

A few weeks ago I posted about the Portland Timbers new campaign for allowing a winning fan to design a Timbers tattoo and then get it.

Well I'm not sure who much hardcore that fan's tattoo could get than this guy.

This Atletico Nacional fan tattooed his team's jersey on his body. That's a hardcore fan!

I'm broke now after buying this stuff

Went on a crazy shopping spree, looking like I've be receiving these items in the mail...

Desktop USB Nerf Dart Cannon - I'm sick of co-workers getting on my computer. Therefore an automated cannon of nerf doom would keep them away. My work space is more heavily defended than the Atlantic Wall (that's a WW2 reference, look it up).

Snowball thrower - It snows in Montana. Some people think its funny to throw snowballs. Not so after I get done with them. This perfectly designed kicking ass device should put a face-full of snow at any person dumb enough to think they can go all Nolan Ryan on me. I counter your Nolan Ryan with my Duke Nukem.

Backyard Ice Rink - Forget the Outdoor classic. Hockey on TV is stupid. In person? It's going to be pretty freakin' awesome when I have the only ice rink in Polson. Too bad I'm gonna have to put it in the neighbor's parking spot.

Tauntaun sleeping bag - "And I thought they smelled bad on the outside." ... actually that's just me farting. My bad.

Star Wars Garbage Compacter scene bookends - "Listen to them R2, they're dying!" Nope, just Chuck Testa. Or rather the coolest bookends I've ever seen in the 26 years of my life!

Cat turn table - Because cats know how to party.

Ghostbusters sign - You know how effing stupid those dumbass "Ghost Hunter" shows are on SyFy? They're about as dumb as this sign is awesome. I don't need infrared cameras and you making fake ghosts noises off camera. All I need is this sign. I aint afraid of no ghosts.

Jedi Shower Robe - I mean what other time would I be allowed to wear a Jedi Robe and not get laughed at? Okay never, but I mean if I'm gonna wear a shower rob, it might as well make me look like an intergalactic badass.

Facebook shower curtain - People say I'm always online. This would only prove it.
