High School Sports Feature: Issaquah Baseball

Looking to build on the last two years of success when Issaquah High School won the 3A state title in 2007, then took 3rd in state in 2008, things may be a little more difficult for the Eagles. This season Issaquah is making the jump to the 4A KingCo Conference where they will have to tangle with the likes of Redmond, Woodinville and Bothell as well as their neighbor Skyline.

There is plenty of reason for optimism for the Eagles since they field what some people are calling the best outfield in the Northwest. All three starters are back from last year. Spencer Rogers, a junior, as well as seniors Miles Perkins and Brennan Miller form the talented trio. The star of this group is definitely Rogers who hit .487 last year as well as leading Issaquah in hits, runs scored and doubles. Perkins (.328 average) and Miller (.321 average) were no slouches at the plate either.

So far this year Issaquah is 2-0 (1-0 league) after they beat Garfield on Tuesday by the final of 6-1. Pitcher Shane Yarnell surrendered only 2 hits while striking out 5 in 6 innings of work. The Eagles will take on Eastlake at home on Thursday at 3:45. As always weather permitting.
