Kentwood High School has a motto "It's Great to be Alive, It's Great to be a Conk". I'd have to say that surely rings true for senior Pitcher, First Basemen, Third Basemen, Team Mascot, Team Manager and First Base coach Alexander Lee. Actually only the first 3 of those apply but you get the picture.
Lee had a great opening game of the season against Emerald Ridge when he threw 5 innings of shutout ball with 5 strikeouts and no walks. He also contributed in the batters box by going 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI's. To cap off the week he was just named WIAA/Seattle Times state athlete of the week for 4A boys.
With the help of senior Jordan Bredengard (2008 leader in batting average at .435), junior Bryant VanEngelenburg (2008 leader in almost every offensive statistical category) and of course Alexander Lee, the 4A South Puget Sound League might find themselves agreeing with Kentwoods motto.
The Conquerors (1-0 league, 3-0 overall) will try to continue their winning ways today at 4 pm at home against Federal Way.
