John Curley leaves Evening Magazine

For almost as long as I can remember, John Curley has hosted "Evening Magazine" on King 5 out of Seattle.

It's Seattle's only entertainment news show.

Well, apparently King 5 didn't renew Curley's contract after 14 years as the host of the show.

Here's a Q and A that Mark Rahner of The Seattle Times did with Curley after his final show. Read it here.

Also, here is his final sign off.

  1. Was the economy why they didn't renew it?

  2. I too had a run in with Curley at a fundraiser and charity auction for ClearPath International, where he was the emcee. Despite the intimate setting, he acted aloof and acted off the stage, making it clear he doesn't like to "make nice" with commoners. It's also well known that he has a reputation for being a racist, as complaints were filed for comments he made at the station. I do not believe this is random hearsay, as I used to work in radio, and no less than five separate jpeople have confirmed this. In fact, I've yet to meet anyone who has worked with him or had encounters with him around town who has anything positive to say about him. I'm sure he'll do just fine in politics.

  3. Oops, correction. I meant to say "he acted aloof and downright arrogant off the stage."

  4. John Curley is a huge douche bag. It is no wonder Evening Magazine got cancelled...it was like watching paint dry. After being canned from King5 he naturally decided to join the conservative hate squad at Kiro 97.3. His show is horribly produced and all he does is complain about Obama and the "liberal agenda". It is your stereotypical ranting from an angry old white man. All the broadcasters on Kiro 97.3 claim to criticize both sides equally but is just your stereotypical right wing political vitriol we have seen over and over again. Curley is presented with a great opportunity to promote the political discourse but naturally it is squandered in the attempt to get better ratings by Obama bashing. To be fair he is slightly better than Frank Shiers but that is like saying one pile of crap is better than another.

In addition Curley has a horrible reputation in the Seattle community. From being racist to just being a flat out jerk to fans and residents. One can hope his show gets cancelled and this turd will be off the air.

  5. i grew up in seattle most of my life and came to work at THE 5 star hotel downtown. since i love this town i did offer mr curley a brief yet sincere compliment of his work. he treated me disrespectfully with less regard than any real celebrity, author, politician that i have ever met to date. i actually remember that impression very clearly, he is not a nice man and his actions did not scream "good person at heart" i think we could find an equally as talented personality that actually represents what this city is... genuinely beautiful.

  6. I liked Curley's story, told on Father's Day a few years ago, about how he hit his father in the face with a shovel. That was a good one. I also liked his fond memories of being a waiter and spitting in the soup, and heating up coffee cup rims on a hot plate so he could watch diners burn their lips. What a card!
