Signs that the world is ending... the Seattle Mariners manage to win a 1-0 ballgame. Never though I'd see that this season.
When you have a bullpen of nothing but righties who through nothing but fastballs, you've got issues. So when starter Chris Jakubauskas (pictured right) had a 1-0 ballgame in the Mariners favor going - I thought the bullpen was going to blow it.
But they held up, Batista, Lowe and Aardsma combined for three innings of relief and allowed only one hit as Seattle defeated the LA Angels.
Good pitching is how the Mariners are going to succeed because they certainly aren't getting it from their bats - they're just an anemic lineup through and through. Don't get me started about Bettencourt either. So game plan - shut everyone else out for the rest of the year. Sounds like that will hold up for sure. :P
The big thing though is that Seattle (19-22) gained on division -leading Texas (23-16) as they lost today to the Detroit Tigers.
Lots of long fly ball outs though for the pitching staff, and the wind was blowing in so their excellent pitching could have been do to the conditions at Safeco.
