After the Sounders FC 1-0 loss to Chivas USA, I ran across this little nugget.
The Seattle Sounders broke their unbeaten streak and ended their consecutive draw streak tonight against Chivas USA. Of course they broke their streak in defeat, not in victory.
Throughout this marvelous 1st season, Seattle fans have given their full 90 and on occasion, so have the players on the pitch. It has been some time since all 11 on the pitch have given their full 90. At least given their full 90 playing the game and not complaining to the referee or getting caught up in some other incident that didn't help the result.
The Sounders have created numerous opportunities over the last 6-7 games but have failed to capitalize and finish. Sigi has noticed this as well and has put more of an emphasis on focus and finishing opportunities. Unfortunately, things haven't worked as of yet.
We have not had a full 90 minute display by all 11 men on the pitch in weeks. I think it's time to shake things up and put some guys on the pitch that are hungry and full of hustle. Sounders fans will continue to stand behind this team and support them but we want to see effort and fight. Drawing and losing are frustrating but forgivable if the men on the pitch give their all. Unfortunately, the lack of effort combined with the less than desirable results are sure to cause frustration and criticism.
Turn over cars! Set something on fire! Break store front windows! Sounders fans are apparently not happy with the play of their team. Might I remind you that they're still in the thick of things with plenty of time left as an expansion team. But hey this is soccer so - punch somebody from Real Salt Lake in the face (I'd do this anyways)!
When you're team doesn't have any MLS history, I would assume it would be kind of unheard of to say "still in contention for a playoff spot is just unacceptable in our first year!"
Although, I wish more Mariner fans we like this, as opposed to "I don't care if we win, we have Griffey back! Hooray!"
