November 22, 2009 - Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird of the United States. But it was Thomas Jefferson who opposed him. It is believed that Franklin then named the male turkey as 'tom' to spite Jefferson.
What is Just South of North
Just South of North is an epic blog written by two guys, Casey Knopik and Brandon Hansen. Since our lives are more pathetic than the fifth Rocky movie, we've dedicated a large chunk of our time to discussing our weird love for Northwest Sports, the outdoors, humor and squirrels. We think they're funny little creatures.
Casey is always up for any outdoor challenge. You can often find him plotting his next great adventure. He graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Journalism. He earned his Eagle Scout through Troop 577. He currently lives in Issaquah, WA. (Click on Casey's photo to follow him on Twitter)
