Weekend Review: Shock debut, Duke vs. Butler, and soccer...

We're starting a new feature on the blog... The Weekend Review, which should catch you up on the things that happened this weekend. Some opinions might find there way into it.

Butler vs. Duke in the National Championship Game -
Check out this New York Times article that reminds us there's a time when Duke was considered an underdog. Butler? The underdog mantle is a bit overdone since they were ranked 10th in the nation at the beginning of the season, however when you pair them up against powerhouse Duke in Butler's hometown of Indianapolis - it kind of takes a life of it's own. This is definitely going to be one of the more intriguing match-ups in national championships we've seen in a long time.

Spokane Shock lose their first game of the season - The Shock had a less-than-glorious start to their first season in the revamped AFL. Spokane suffered a 74-62 home defeat at the hands of the Milwaukee Iron, and the bigger blow was the way some fans (the casual ones, not the ones that cheer non-stop and sometimes provide tailgating food to yours truly... this is a key point) reacted to the loss. Even though the team battled back in the contest (That score doesn't really do justice to how close Spokane was to winning this game), some people thought it's going to be tough times for the Shock in the road ahead. After one game. If the fan base reacts like this, can you imagine if they finish with a losing record? You just won two championships guys... let's give this team a little leeway one game into the season.

The Seattle Sounders FC drop a 1-0 contest to the New York Red Bulls - Considering that the Red Bulls haven't won on the road very often, this loss is disappointing for Seattle. One item that the team was talking about this season was how much better the Sounders' offense was suppose to be and how their would be fewer 1-0 games. Whoops.

Boston Red Sox 9, New York Yankees 7 - I know nobody in the Spokane area cares about the Red Sox winning on Sunday night, but since I'm writing this blog you're just going to have to suffer through it. After the experts thought they'd have an anemic offense this season, the Sox have shown they can score at least for 1/162th of the year.
