Epic Photo of Greatness: Centralia Power Plant

On the first day of the year I headed just outside of Centralia to snap a photo of the Centralia Power Plant. It’s the only commercial coal fire plant in the state of Washington and is set to shut down in 2025 because of environmental issues. The plant’s boilers were launch in the early 1970s and most of the coal was provided from the nearby Centralia Coal Mine (the largest coal mine in the state). Since the Canadian company TransAlta bought it 2000, they’ve been slowly reducing mercury emissions at the plant. Here are some photos from the plant…
