High School Sports Feature: Barney, Betty, Fred and ELMA!!

6th ranked Elma High School (every time I think of that school I get Fred Flinstone in my head yelling for his wife) opened the 2A state girls basketball tournament with a resounding beat down of the Fife Trojans on Wednesday at the Yakima SunDome (I heard they took part of the King Dome to build it).

In the 48-20 victory for the Eagles a new record for blocks in a game was set at 8 by Brandi Thomas (the old record was 7 set in 2005). In addition to providing blanket-like defense (allowing Fife to convert only 6 field goals and 13.3 percent from the field) Thomas also added 14 points.

Elma will not face Prosser tonight after the Mustangs trotted (so much cheese .... but ... can't ... resist) by Bellingham 72-68 on Wednesday.
