High School Sports Feature: Issaquah boys soccer
The Issaquah High School boys soccer team had never been to the post-season in the history of the program. Yesterday, that changed.
Issaquah qualified for the 16-team state tournament with a 2-1 win over Evergreen of Vancouver on Saturday.
Yesterday they hosted Rogers of Puyallup in the first round of the 4A state tournament.
And they walked away with a 2-1 victory.
After 49 minutes of play, the score was still locked at zero. Issaquah midfielder Lucas Morias put the Eagles up first when he put in a penalty kick.
10 minutes later at the 59 mark, Conner Holmes headed in a goal to put the Eagles up 2-0.
But Rogers fought back. Just four minutes later, Rodgers got on the board with a penalty pass from Josh Carbudillo to Stephen Dutson.
The first trip to state for the team, and they walk away with a win.
According to the Sammamish Reporter:
Issaquah (13-5-2) will face Marysville-Pilchuck (17-0-2) at 1 p.m., Saturday at Lake Stevens High School in a quarterfinal matchup. The winner advances to the semifinals to face the winner of Snohomish-South Kitsap, Friday May 29 at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.
