Seattle Cheese Festival

This past weekend was a reminder of why people love the state of Washington. The weather was EPIC!! and there is always something to do. On Sunday I met up with some friends who live in Seattle and we went for about a 7 mile run. Our ultimate destination was Seattle's 5th annual Cheese Festival.

On our route we ended up running into the 27th annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge. We met up with the group running the 8k right at the University Bridge. We narrowly beat the bridge ourselves by about 3 minutes, this was good because it was the first year they raised the bridge without warning so you can imagine the disaster that ensued. I'm kidding about that but it was nice to get across before they stopped people.

Once we got into downtown Seattle we ran into some people that were part of a bike race (like I said always something going on). I'm not sure what it was so I asked this guy and he wasn't sure either but he had a bib with a number so I was a little confused. What was more confusing was a little course that was set up where people who were doing this bike ride had to get on mini bikes and peddle around a little course???

When we got to the Cheese Festival it was everything you could imagine and more, if you love cheese. I wouldn't say I love cheese because there are some cheeses I don't like but I do like cheese. So as a group we began our trek through the crowds of cheese conisuers to get our fill, and fill we did. I myself bought a few different cheeses, I got some Yancey's Fancy Hot Wasabi Horseradish, Cypress Grove Cream Line Midnight Moon and Steve's Smoked Cheese. All of which were very good.

As a group we decided the next time we go to a cheese festival to arm ourselves with a head band with slots for toothpicks so it is easier to "ninja" your way between people to stab a chunk of cheese (by the end of the day we were all masters at this). Also for the softer or crumbled cheeses it would be fitting to have an ammunition style harness draped over your shoulder with mini spoon rounds. And to complete the look a utility belt with 4 ounce wine bottles to clean your pallet between cheeses.

We did come across an interesting stand that seemed a little out of place at this event...

Below are some other photos I took from the event.

Here is Andrew Drake enjoying some cheese from the Amaltheia Organic Dairy

Ummm cheese is good!

And yes more cheese....

You can see the toothpick tactic being used here:

It was a great time, excellent weather and plenty of cheese. However it may be awhile before I can enjoy the cheese that I bought, not sure if there is such a thing as a "cheese hangover" but if there is, I have one.
