After 6 stages Lance Armstrong currently still sits in 2nd place by a fraction of a second behind race leader Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.
The race now heads into the mountainous terrain where Armstrong has long succeeded.
Thor Hushovd of Norway led a mass sprint finish to capture the 113-mile sixth stage.
The rest of is Astana team currently holds four of the top five spots behind Cancellara.
