Eastern Washington loses exhibition game

Last night the Eastern Washington Eagles men's basketball team took the court for the first time during the 2010-2011 season with an exhibition game against Seattle Pacific University.

And things didn't go very well for the Eagles.

The team has been fighting injuries during the off-season and was forced to play SPU without two of last years leaders.

Sophomore guards Glen Dean and Jeffrey Forbes both missed the game.

Dean is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his foot after averaging 12.2 points and 4.4 assists a year ago. Forbes sat out with a knee strain and averaged 11.0 points in his debut season.

With Dean and Forbes out, the Eagles had to turn to junior college transfer Tremayne Johnson. He led the Eagles with 22 points. However, the Eagles fell to a 17-point deficit early in the second half. They rallied back several times but never could close the gap to less than 3.

Eastern plays another exhibition game on Monday against Montana State University - Billings, before they start the regular season next Friday at home against San Jose State.
