High School Sports Feature: Lakes lives till another day

Sorry Brandon. The eastside looses again. This time to Lakes High School boys basketball team. In the 3A consolation winner still has a chance at 4th place, loosers season is done game, the Lakes Lancers squeaked by Shadle Park 72-64 in overtime.

Lakes moves on, Shadle Park had a good season.

The game was a hard fought battle between two teams that did not want to leave the Tacoma Dome just yet.

With just under a minute left in regulation, Lakes held a 66-62 lead, but the Highlanders refused to surrender. Instead they used the fact that one of the best Lancers, Andre Winston, Jr., could do nothing as he had fouled out with about 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

In overtime, Shadle Park fell apart though. Having fought so hard to tie the game up, Anthony Brown got frustrated and shoved Danny Martinez of Lakes. This caused Brown, who finished the game with 29 points, to foul out.

With Brown on the bench, the Lancers rolled to the easy win, making all eight of its freethrows in the final minute of OT.
