Yeah, the collective backs of the Spokane Chiefs are up against the wall as they return home tonight facing a 2-0 series deficit to the Vancouver Giants. It's not an enviable position for any team, much less one struggling to score and defend, but back in their own barn, Spokane will be looking to take Game 3.
In Game 1 of the series, Spokane hung with the Giants, tying the game early in the third at 1 apiece before allowing power play and empty net markers in a 3-1 defeat.
Game 2 was much less competitive, as Vancouver lit the lamp twice in each of the first two periods en route to a convincing 4-1 win. The Chiefs failed to generate anything offensively until Drayson Bowman tallied for the sixth time in the playoffs on the man advantage early in the third.
Back in the Arena, the Chiefs will need to limit the Giants' chances on offense if they want to narrow the gap in the series. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski has been outstanding, keeping Spokane in games with huge saves, but without help in front of him, has only been able to do so much. Conversely, the Chiefs must sustain pressure against Vancouver netminder Tyson Sexsmith and make him step up. Sexsmith has only faced 19 shots in each of the first two contests as well as very few scoring chances. If he's able to relax and watch most of the game from the other end of the ice, this series may not return to Canada.
