It's official, Nate Montana has transferred from Notre Dame to the University of Montana. It seems that Eastern Washington University and the rest of Big Sky have their own Cuban Missile Crisis in football. The NFL legend's son is surely to bring his dad's skill and coolness to Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
Hold on, this might be all a farce, read what ESPN had to say...
It's questionable whether the quarterback would have ever made the roster had his name been Nate Wyoming. But as the son of Joe Montana, he was going to be given a shot. And the Irish were glad to have him last season after he transferred back in from junior college, because Montana was the most experienced quarterback on the roster after Dayne Crist.
Montana played in three games in 2010, going 9-for-18 for 116 yards with an interception. When Crist got hurt against Michigan and Tommy Rees looked nervous and shaky, Montana was the one who had to finish the half.
But once Rees improved and wound up starting and finishing the final four games victoriously, Montana clearly became the odd man out. The Irish brought in highly regarded freshman Everett Golson in this recruiting class and have Andrew Hendrix and Luke Massa from last year's signing class, plus the return of Rees and Crist. Brian Kelly said that there was no way to get six quarterbacks reps in practice and that the group would be thinned. It didn't take a genius to see that Montana needed to find a new home.
Montana fans shouldn't celebrate just yet, because Nate is an unproven commodity. Nothing against the kid, and seriously it will be cool to have the QB have the same name as the state he represents (Should make for some cool photos). Here's what Mick Holien, the godfather for Montana football (and Polson resident), had to say on his blog...
It’s been quite the winter for such drop-down quarterback speculation and the school no doubt will receive quite a degree of national pub for his arrival.
A business school enrollee and a finance major at Notre Dame, Nate will be a junior in eligibility and have two years to play two seasons.
He is described in the Notre Dame Press Guide as “a raw but talented quarterback” who enjoyed his best career outing in the Blue-Gold Spring game where he connected on 18 of 30 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns as the Gold quarterback.
Six-foot 4-inches and 215 pounds, his younger brother, Nick, is a quarterback at the University of Washington.
It’s a good thing he’s a Libra because he needs the strength and creativity of his astrological sign to grow out of the shadow of his famous father and blossom as something other than the son of a four-time Super Bowl and National Championship winning quarterback.
As my good buddy, Charley Mitchell, suggested, maybe the town of Ismay which changed its name to Joe Montana in his honor in 1993, should consider another moniker alteration.
So while Montana has the namesake, EWU had transfer Bo Levi Mitchell. Might I add that Mitchell has pantented "gunslinger" tattoos on his arms. ADVANTAGE: EWU.

Montana to Washington

Nick Montana, a quarterback and son of hall of fame quarterback Joe Montana is coming to the University of Washington.
Montana, 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, will be in the class of 2010 for UW. And he gave his verbal commitment to Head Coach Steve Sarkisian and will sign his letter of intent in February.
Now this signing is awesome for UW and exactly what they need.
The soon-to-be senior qb from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif., will not only bring a great arm, quarterback thinking, and quick decision making (he's ranked in the top 20 players at QB in the country) but he brings with him the reputation of being a hall of fame quarterbacks son.
Montana also had scholarship offers from LSU, Ohio State, Stanford, Alabama, Notre Dame and Georgia.
But evidently he knew his choice after his recent visit to Seattle.
UW might have lost Sammamish native and stud QB Jake Heaps to BYU. But they brought in another great QB in Montana.
Oh, and an interesting note, on September 18, Montana will lead Oaks Christian High School into Sammamish, Washington to take on Heaps and Washington powerhouse Skyline High School.
And you can bet the Northern Rangers will be out there covering that game.

Postcard delivered 47 years late

It was 47 years late and now, both the sender and the recipient have passed away.
Now the post office said that the postcard probably got stuck in some machine or fell behind some equipment. But here's my list of possibly what took so long for the postcard to get delivered:
1. Montana still uses the pony express.
2. Montana always has snow, therefore the truck probably got lost in a snowstorm.
3. Montana is so large it took along time to get this postcard across it.
4. The letter deliverer actually went north on accident. They started and ended their career delivering that same postcard.
5. The postcard said, "Wish you were here." Nobody really wishes that about Montana. Maybe, "Wish I wasn't here."

Epic Photo: At least he isn't wearing a fur coat

Brett Favre on the New York Jets? This is like when you go back to your hometown and they've torn down a familiar building and put up a Starbucks.
I don't know if there's anyone I can be mad at in this situation. Brett Favre retired and then decided he wanted to come back and play (hey, Michael Jordan did it twice). The Green Bay Packers had to rebuild for the future sometime and we're probably tired of getting jerked around each season with retirement talk from Favre and then having him come back. They drafted Aaron Rogers for a reason and need to get the ball moving on that era.
You coach, run and draft for your team with a plan in mind and the Packers have been in limbo for a couple of years. So even if you're a Favre fan you've got to understand where they're coming from.
However, could they have handled it differently? Sure. So could Favre.
But they both stared each other in the eye until somebody finally blinked. Who blinked is still up to interpretation, though.
You've got to love that Favre still wants to play, although if any other player pulled this, he'd probably get torn apart by the media. I just hope this doesn't become...
Johnny Unitas to the San Diego Chargers
Jerry Rice to the Seattle Seahawks
Emmit Smith in Arizona
Michael Jordan in Washington (oh yeah, I went there)
This may end up being like Joe Montana in Kansas City, which wasn't a complete bust and does nothing to tarnish his legacy.
However with the Packer gold gone from Favre's jersey, I would dare say that has already happen to some extent.
