The Northern Rangers Murtaugh List
If you keep up with Just South of North, then you know that Brandon has posted several stories over time on the trials of getting old.Well, he is right. I'm not saying that we are old, but present Casey and present Brandon certainly aren't as spry as college Casey and college Brandon were.
Each week on Monday nights, I watch How I Met Your Mother. I missed this Monday's episode because, well because I went to bed early. (stop laughing)
Anyway, I just watched that episode titled, "Murtaugh." This episode was about Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) trying to prove Ted (Josh Radnor) that he was still young.
Ted keeps a Murtaugh List (named after Rodger Murtaugh of Lethal Weapon) of all the things the group is now too old to take part in. Murtaugh's tagline is, "I'm too old for this (stuff)" He said stuff.
Barney gives Ted his "Old Man List" and each attempts to complete the other's list.
Watching this episode got me to thinking, how many of these items do present Casey and present Brandon partake in?
Here's the lists and how each task either relates to us or doesn't:
Ted’s Murtaugh List:
- Pulling an all-nighter- I only used to do that when I had an 18 page research paper due the next day and I of course put it off till the last minute possible. So no, with no research paper due, no point.
- Get ear pierced- Ummm....I didn't do that would I was young. But I think Brandon got his bellybutton pierced once.
- Hanging posters without frames- Have you seen my room? It's called art.
- Crash on a friend's futon- Whenever I visit friends back on the Eastside, it's a couch for me. Hotel room? Pashaw.
- Eating an entire pizza in one sitting- Still do it. I'm not fat either. Somehow, not sure how. Tonight for dinner I ate four mamwich burgers, a lowfat yogurt, two Cadbary cream eggs and a pack of fruitsnacks.
- Do laundry at mom's house- I only do my laundry there. It's called a perk.
- Put off going to the doctor- Insurance? What's that?
- Drinking shots with strangers- An evening with Brandon and there are no strangers.
- Leave an annoying two person message on your answering machine- My current voice mail message: This is Casey. Leave a message. AAAAHHHHH!
- Help someone move out of a sixth floor walkup in exchange for pizza and beer- If she is hot, Brandon would just help.
- Beer Bong- Welcome to Friday night.
- Going to a rave- I didn't do that when I was in college. I don't wear tight pants.
Barney’s Old Men List:
- Yell at neighborhood kids- I actually did this while writing the blog. They were playing that dang music too loud.
- Put on reading glasses- A few more years of staring at a computer monitor and we'll both need them.
- Eat supper at 4pm- I do that already. I get hungry.
- Go to bed at 8pm- Nope, 9 PM.
- Get up at 4am- Nope, drag myself out of bed at 5:30 AM.
- Take forever to answer the phone- Brandon doesn't answer the phone. He just texts.

Epic Video: Doogie Style
Don't believe me that Neil Patrick Harris is awesome. Not only was he Doogie Howser, M.D. but he also has enough sense of humor to do this at the end of How I Met Your Mother. That's right ladies and gentlemen. Doogie returns.
A show of LEGENDARY humor
I'm here to tell you about the awesomest show on television. It truly is a show the is LEGENDARY.
Now many may have seen this show while flipping through the channels. Yet, I believe that this show is truly the new FRIENDS.
I'm talking about How I Met Your Mother.
I recently purchased the DVD seasons of the show (because Target was having a major deal on them) so I figured, "Hey, why not."
It was the most awesome decision of my life.
The show is amazing. Now I had watched all of this season, currently the fourth, and parts of the other seasons. But to sit down and watch them back to back is epic.
How I Met Your Mother is about just that. Bob Saget, one of the most famous TV dads of all time, is telling his kids in the year 2030 about, yep you guessed it, how he met their mom.
Now being a huge fan of FRIENDS, it would take a lot to get another show to not only grab my attention, but to grab my attention and tickle its funny bone until it collapses in a laughing heap on the couch.
This show does just that.
From the way the five characters interact. Yes FIVE, unlike the SIX of FRIENDS. That six slot is reserved for non season regulars that pop in for a few episodes and then fade away into the metaphorical TV sunset.
To the way the storyline twists and turns, yet never gets boring. If you don't believe me that the show is legendary, just ask this guy.
It's good. So watch it. Monday nights at 8:30 Pacific Time. On CBS. And yes, Neil Patrick Harris is a badass. Check out Barney's blog by CLICKING HERE.
