Spiderman musical an absolute disaster

Spiderman the movie was awesome. Well 1 and 2 were good, the third one was flaming dog doo. However I would say the popularity of the series probably spawned a $65 million broadway show, that just so happens to be going off without a hitch...

Christopher Tierney, the stunt actor who was injured after falling 30 feet during a performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, was released from Bellevue hospital and transferred to a New York City rehab facility for inpatient rehabilitation.

On Tuesday, Tierney was able to walk with the help of a full-torso brace before his hospital discharge.

On December 20, he fell during a performance of the problem-riddled musical. His injuries included a "hairline skull fracture, four broken ribs, a bruised lung, internal bleeding and cracks in three lumbar vertebrae," according to the Associated Press.

He is one of four people connected to the $65 million Broadway show to sustain significant injuries due to the production.


Having been in a theater production or two, I can tell you that the effects, stunts and even choreography don't always go off perfectly. Somebody who thought that you could have somebody flying around on wires is an idiot.

A true hero

Every now and then the media really comes across an incredible story. I saw this in the Seattle Times last week and this is one of those stories. As a fellow journalist, I tip my hat to Katherine Long. Great job!

Thursday was shaping up to be just another school day for 13-year-old Erik Martin, but then something extraordinary happened: Spider-Man called.

Spider-Man happens to be one of the few people who knows that Erik, too, has a secret identity — he's Electron Boy, a superhero who fights the powers of evil with light.

And Spider-Man needed Erik's help.

Erik, who is living with liver cancer, has always wanted to be a superhero. On Thursday, the regional chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him that wish with an elaborate event that involved hundreds of volunteers in Bellevue and Seattle.

Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern

I'm a comic book nerd. I'll admit it. I love anything with a man in tights. Wait....that came out wrong....

How about, I love anything with a superhero in it. Yeah, that sounds better.

Well, so far it seems like Marvel is kicking DC Comic's royal butt when it comes to making movies. Marvel has blown away its superhero counter part with movies over the last decade.

Marvel has a ton of movies set up in the near future (not to mention the past success stories of the Spiderman Trilogy, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, and of course the Fantastic Four starring Jessica Alba).

Over the course of the next few years they'll be releasing Iron Man 2, Thor (which will star Natalie Portman) a Captain America movie, and the much anticipated climax of these five movies (including the Incredible Hulk) with The Avengers in 2012.

Well, in attempt to battle back, DC is releasing a Green Lantern movie with a release date of June 17, 2011.

And for the lead role, they took a page out of the Marvel playbook and cast Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern. This comes from Superherohype.com

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds to play the title role in the anticipated Green Lantern, scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release.

Based on the DC Comics hero, the action-adventure will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

The Hollywood trades say that Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test. The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds' option would have expired end of day Friday.

Production is expected to begin in January.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Reynolds recently starred in Fox's "Wolverine," in which he played Wade Wilson/Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spin-off to which Reynolds is attached. He also played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

Mighty Muggs

Picture this:

It's just a normal day at the office. Me sitting in my chair, spinning in circles and making farting noises. Well, it's times like this that I am glad that I am known around the office as "toy guy." Yeah, I have toys on my desk. I have two robots, a guy I found in the parking lot that a purple monster thing, a Peter Griffin and three Mighty Muggs.

And I make them fight.

But this blog isn't about how awesome I am, no, it's about Mighty Muggs. Which are basically the coolest things ever. That's some of the Star Wars ones pictured.

Mighty Muggs are a vinyl/plastic collectible toy series made by Hasbro. And they are 100% recycled materials. AKA 100% recycled awesome.

I have Spiderman, the Human Torch and Bumblebee. Needless to say, I'm the envy of all the other workers.
