Seahawks are 2nd-least popular franchise in the NFL
Something tells me this Harris Poll was taken largely on the East Coast, because the Seahawks are most certianly not the least popular franchise in the Northwest. Heck, I can't get away from these green and blue bird fans in Montana. It's just another case of the rest of the country ignoring the Northwest.
The Harris Poll released a survey of the most and -- in the Seattle Seahawks' case -- least popular NFL teams. In a survey of 2,620 fans, Seattle ranked 31st out of 32 teams in the NFL, leading only the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Seahawks even ranked behind the St. Louis Rams and Detroit Lions, franchises that have been hapless in recent memory.
Seems hard to believe that the Seahawks, who sell out every game and have a cult following in Seattle, are that unpopular. Must be another case of the Northwest being ignored by the rest of the United States.
And by the way...
1. The Jags were the least popular. No surprise there.
2. What about the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons?
3. Oakland Raiders fans havent exactly been filling their stadium either.
4. The NFL legitimatly wants to move the Buffalo Bills to Canada.
5. The Tennessee Titans are in one of the smallest media markets in the league.
6. Chargers fans are worried about local blackouts.
7. Cleveland Browns anyone?
And you're telling me that the Seahawks are the least popular? Please.

You know it's fall when...
WEATHER
1. You have to get an umbrella for going outside in Seattle.
2. You have to get a nice winter jacket for going outside in Spokane.
3. You have to get sled dogs for going outside in Montana.
WILDLIFE
1. All the crazy hipsters have their eyeshadow bleed in Seattle.
2. The homeless people in Spokane are trying to find a warm place to sleep, usually in the great big Radio Flyer wagon.
3. Bears are chasing me. They're always chasing me in Montana.
ROADS
1. Seattle drivers crash into everything at the slightest hint of snow.
2. Spokane drivers drive in two feet of snow without a hitch. Wonder when they'll actually plow the roads.
3. Roads? In Montana we don't need roads.
HEATING
1. Seattle people just wear sweaters inside. Bad Holiday sweaters.
2. The people of Spokane have to pay a little more with their heating bill. DAMN YOU AVISTA!
3. Looks like I'm going to have to burn this wooden chair to get through the winter.

Movember: Grow A coat of arms for your face
Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache.
The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.
The funds raised through Movember’s US campaign benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Read more about Movember on their official site. You can also sign up and donate.
Ole Miss has a new mascot
The "Rebel Black Bear" will take the place of the "Colonel Reb'' who was axed as the mascot seven years ago.
Colonel Reb was basically the KFC Colonel.
The school has been trying to distance itself from symbols of the old South, including the mascot and the waving of Confederate flags at sporting events.
The announcement came after a campuswide vote in February and months of polling. The bear beat out two other finalists, the Rebel Land Shark and something called the ``Hotty Toddy,'' an attempt to personify the school cheer. The bear received 62 percent of the vote in the final poll.
And with those as the top three choices it's no wonder the black bear won. What the heck is a Hotty Toddy and a land shark?
Here's an artist's rendition of the new Rebel Black Bear:

WSU Cougars need more than a football stadium
WSU Athletic Director Bill Moos thinks that Martin Stadium needs some serious improvements and a football facility in order for the Cougars to be competitive in the Pac-10 Conference. While those things would certianly be nice and the size of Martin Stadium is laughable compared to the other schools in the conference, that's not going to fix everything. Here is what you have to consider...
1. Pullman is a small town compared to the cities the other schools are in. While Spokane is just an hour a way, the school is always going to be lacking in the corporate sponsorships and media market money because there just simply aren't enough heavy hitters and people in the area.
2. It's a northern school and it's colder than balls in Pullman. Nobody from California is going to jump at the chance to live there.
3. They get out-recruited in their own state by Washington. They get out-recruited by Montana and Eastern. They get out-recruited by everyone. If you think I'm joking, just look how big EWU and Montana are as a team and how many local kids are and then look at how big WSU is and where their kids are from. When I saw WSU walk out of the tunnel two years ago I was shocked at how small they were.
So as much as it pains me to talk badly about the Cougs in front of Casey "Dawgfan" Knopik, they need a lot more than just some luxury suites.
PAC-10 realignment hinges on compromise

The soon to be PAC-12 has many issues facing the new conference, but none is probably as crucial to get settled as the division alignment.
And of course nothing is easy when it comes to getting the approval of 12.
The California schools all want to stay together while the Northwest schools want guaranteed games in California state to help with recruiting.
According to ESPN.com’s Andy Katz, the plan favored by the conference will feature Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State in a North Division, along with California and Stanford.
The South Division will include Arizona, Arizona State, USC, UCLA and the two new additions, Colorado and Utah.
The other plan that hasn't gotten as much attention is being called the "zipper." This would split the conference East and West and divide every rivalry.
I like the first division setup more than the "zipper" for the simple fact that rivalries are better within divisions than just for bragging rights. One thing that the PAC-10 always had was geographical rivalries within the conference. Each school had a rival within their own state. And of course the two Los Angeles schools had their rivalry with the two Northern California schools having theirs.
Now add in Utah and Colorado and you still have a rivalry because those two teams will always be the "new guys" in the conference. At least until it expands again. So for now they'll compete for the best of the new teams instead of having their rivalry interstate.
The public will know soon enough how the divisions will be as the PAC-10 school presidents and athletic directors, plus those from Colorado and Utah, will meet Oct. 21 to unveil the 12-team alignment.

A Skiers Journey
Until then, check out this film by Jordan Manley called A Skiers Journey.
There are some truly beautiful scenes in it.
Eastern's Jones might not play against Northern Colorado
The school told SWX on Monday evening that Jones is borderline questionable or probable for Saturday's game in Greeley. The Walter Payton Award candidate left the game against the Lumberjacks on Saturday with hip and back spasms.
Saturday the number 12 Eastern Eagles are traveling to Northern Colorado. They need to win out to stay pace with Montana State and Montana in the hunt for the Big Sky Championship.
Jones suffered a cut on his leg near the groin area in the loss to Montana State two weeks ago. He didn't play in the win at Weber State.
Sure hope he can get back up to full health and help the Eagles make a push for the championship.

A woman claiming a Northwest Side tattoo parlor accidentally inked a backward Chicago White Sox logo on her thigh filed a lawsuit Thursday against the business and the artist.
